Vacuum distillation can be used to concentrate samples so that substances become easier to detect in a subsequent analysis instrument, recover solvents, and purify or otherwise process materials. The technique is particularly useful for heat-sensitive substances or substances with high boiling points, as distillation under vacuum takes place at a lower temperature.
